purposes of the charges against me. He says he know the abbrevia-

-tions *0.A." meant Official Administrator. I submit Khawas Khan

could not have imagined that "0.A.Hongkong" meant the Official Administrator, Supreme Court, as much as he was unable to imagine that "0.A., Hongkong" did not mean the official Assignee. I submit the whole of his story with regard to the transaction on the 10th. of September last is nothing, but a made up thing by him and

Mohamed Ackbar or himself alone. Khawas Khan endeavoured to link

me with a man who had been out of Gaol only two days before the remittance. He said he suspected the man when he saw him sitting near my house to be the man who tendered the application form and the 113.93. He used all his Police experience in the matter to

take me to the lion's den.

Mohamed Ackber admitted that if he had got the application form for the 100 in his possession in my handwriting on the 14th. of June last he could put it in on the 14th. of June without any- -body being able to detect him. There was nothing to prevent him

doing that if he was fraudulent. He could not send the 113.93 as

the figures had been altered from $213.93 to $113.93 and the whole

affair was apparent therefrom. The rumour as to transfers and

promotions was already unofficially out and if I wanted to make up

my discrepancies I could have done so in q June before my

departure from the Registry and the Registrar would not have been

able to detect that the money had not been reiitted until somD-

-time in June, instead of on the 17th. of April last. It is alleg

-ed that I remitted the $100 on the 14th. of June last. Assuming

that that is so the question that requires careful consideration

is, could I have remitted the other $113.93 on or before the 30th.

of June last ? I submit I could have remitted it, but I was un-

-aware of the fact that this figure of 113.93 was outstanding

against me. Instead of remitting the 8110 on my private account,

I would have remitted it to the Deputy Commissioner, of Hoshiarpur,

in order to get out of difficulties. The Committee is impressed

with the fact that I was hard up and in need of money and that

therefore most likely I did deal with the 8213.93 in the manner

alleged
